Most natural citrine forms in volcanic rock when iron impurities color quartz crystals warm yellow during slow cooling. Pale 'champagne' citrine is the most common natural form; deeper amber and Madeira hues are rarer and command premium prices. Note: a large share of commercial citrine is heat-treated amethyst — Stone Mart sells only confirmed natural specimens.
In feng shui and Vastu Shastra, citrine activates the wealth corner of a home or workspace (south-east in feng shui). Placing a citrine money tree on an office desk, cash counter, or near the front entrance is one of the most popular abundance rituals in Indian and Chinese decorating traditions.
Beyond wealth symbolism, citrine is used in crystal healing to clear self-doubt, sharpen decision-making, and lift mood — making it a popular choice for entrepreneurs, students, and anyone navigating a career transition.
Cleanse monthly with running water or sage smoke. Recharge under sunlight (citrine is one of the few quartz varieties that does not fade easily). Avoid harsh chemicals and abrupt temperature changes.
No. Citrine is a yellow variety of quartz; yellow topaz is a different mineral entirely (a fluorine-aluminium silicate). They are commonly confused because of their similar color, but topaz has a different crystal structure and a higher Mohs hardness of 8.
Citrine resonates with the solar plexus (manipura) chakra, the energy center associated with personal power, willpower, and confidence.
Feng shui places citrine in the south-east corner of a home or office to activate the wealth area. In Vastu, the south-east is also the ideal placement. Many merchants keep a small citrine cluster near the cash register or on the office desk.
Citrine is most beneficial for Leo, Gemini, and Scorpio. Its abundant, mood-lifting energy is considered universally compatible, but those signs report the strongest connection.
Natural citrine shows a soft, smoky-yellow tone often with subtle color zoning. Heat-treated amethyst (sometimes sold as citrine) tends to display a uniform burnt-orange color and white or cloudy crystal bases. Stone Mart sells only confirmed natural citrine.
